Dogs With Blogs, Fashion Labels And PR Consultants

The Disney Channel executives may think that they are breaking new ground with the new TV show ‘Dog With A Blog‘ about a talking, blogging dog. But in fact dog have been blogging, talking (preferably on Skype) and launching perfume labels for a long time now.

Here is a brief list of blogging dogs and more:

1. The first on the list is Barak Obama’s dog Bo. He has already published 4 children’s books (well, he is a character in the books anyway) and allegedly has directed a number of Predator drone strikes in the sands of Pakistan (I said ‘allegedly’, didn’t I).

2. Paris Hilton’s Tinkerbell (a chihuahua). Has redefined what it is to be a dog of celebrity, or should that be a celebrity dog.  Tinkerbell went missing last year for 6 days after a burglary. Paris offered $5000 dollar reward and the dog was promptly returned, the details of the transaction were not disclosed. Tinkerbell also inspired Hilton’s dog clothing line ‘Little Lilly’.

3. The Queen and her Corgis. In 1944, when Elizabeth was 18, she was given a Corgi named Susan, from which several offspring were bred. However, in 2009, it was reported that the Queen would no longer breed dogs after two of her pets died. Currently, the Queen has four Corgis named Linnet, Monty, Willow and Holly and three Dorgis named Cider, Candy and Vulcan. A Dorgi is a crossbreed between a Dachshund and a Corgi.

The Queen’s Corgis have their own “Corgi Room” and their daily menu varies from chuck steak to poached chicken or rabbit. I wonder if the palace employs a special ‘dog cook’ or if the dogs eat manufactured dog food. A closely guarded royal secret, I hear.

3. Oprah often puts out updates on the health of her dogs on her website. Last year on her 56th birthday, the talk show queen bought herself two 14-week-old Springer Spaniels named Sunny and Lauren.

4.  Mariah Carey has four Jack Russell terriers. The oldest named Jack (pictured) was a gift from Carey’s ex-husband and record executive Tommy Mottola. Jack has made many cameo appearances in Carey’s music videos such as ‘Dreamlover’ and ‘All I want for Christmas is you’. He also appeared in the movie ‘Glitter’ and has three fan websites dedicated to him.

So there you have it. Nothing special about it.
