A proposal to raise revenue by taxing dog and cat owners in cash-strapped Italy has been defeated amid threats of mayhem and public disobedience:
‘Italy was abuzz for hours after local media reported a parliamentary commission had proposed a tax on domestic “animals of affection” to raise revenue for debt-strapped cities and towns.
Protests were voiced by everyone from animal rights groups – who said it would prompt more people to abandon animals – to politicians who called it “grotesque”, “surreal”, “idiotic” and “shameful”.’
Good on Italians for standing up to those mad bureaucrats’ thought bubble! Tells you a little about what got that country in the mess in the first place.
