Our ‘Best Friends’ Can Make Us Sick: A Timely Reminder To All

As a Veterinarian I had it drill into me at Vet school to always wash my hands before, after and between patients.

In truth this advice applies to everyone who keeps pets. They are our best friends, we love them but do not forget: they are animals and can spred dangerous diseases.

The article below is referring to a Salmonella outbreak in Colorado. The reality is that Salmonella is common everywhere and that there are other common bacterial disease which can be spread from dogs to humans.

Please follow these rules:

Always wash your hands with soap and water after touching your pet.

– Do not allow your pet to lick you on the mouth or face (I know, this can be a hard one).

– Don’t share your food with your pets.

– Supervise children around dogs to prevent contact with face and mouth.
